Trattoria der Pallaro, Rome, Italy
| We read about the Trattoria der Pallaro in Rick Steves' Rome guidebook. The restaurant has no menu, instead it has a sign that says: "qui se mangia quello che passa la casa", or "Here, you will eat what we want to feed you." The restaurant is run by Paola Fazi and her family. |
Follow up:
Paola met us at the entrance. She noticed the Rick Steves book in Marta's hand and grabbed it, flipping it open, with a practiced hand, to the page showing her picture. We had her sign the book. She seated us and disappeared. Within moments the parade of food began. It was a five course meal. I think we were given a choice of red or white wine, but other than that, we had no say in the matter. It was great! Everything was delicious.
The efficient machine of operation seemed like the antithesis of the Italian eating experience. It was by far the fastest meal we had in an Italian restaurant. I don't mean that to sound like we felt rushed - they obviously know what they are doing.
If you want authentic Italian food, in the right combinations, without having to think about it, Trattoria der Pallaro is the place for you.
