| | I have so far resisted the lure of MMORPGs (Massively Multi-player On-line Role Playing Game). I skipped City of Heroes. I didn’t feel the pull of World of Warcraft. But two upcoming games are piquing my interest. DCU Online and Star Trek Online. DCU has Jim Lee as the creative director, responsible for all the character designs and Geoff Johns writing the story. And Star Trek, well, it’s Star Trek. |
As a child, my imagination was nourished by fantasizing about living in the Star Trek world - serving on a starship, using the transporter and imagining what it would be like to have powers and hang out with the Justice League or the Fantastic Four. Unfortunately Marvel aborted their MMORPG efforts. And now, with only the glass of my monitor as the barrier, I can enter those worlds. The downside is that MMORPGs have monthly subscription fees and require a lot of time to master and experience. Subscribing to one is a commitment - two - a vocation. Well, they are both still months away, so I have time to think about it.
