Happy 250th birthday, Guinness
September 24th is Arthur's day - a day to celebrate Arthur Guinness, the founder of Guinness. Today is an extra special Arthur's day because it is the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guinness signing the lease on the St. James brewery in Dublin, Ireland. Visiting that wonderful place was a highlight of my visit to Dublin. Worldwide, there are parties and events scheduled to commemorate this great day. To learn more, visit the official site, here. |
Alabama refuses to step out of the 19th century - bans wine with "immoral or sensuous" label
| Cycles Gladiator wines has had this beautiful artwork as their label for a few years. The painting itself actually dates back to 1895 and was originally a poster to advertise bicycling. Today, in 2009, the state of Alabama has banned Cycles Gladiator wines from stores because Alabama law prohibits labels with a person posed in an "immoral or sensuous manner." The Alabama Beverage Control Board deems this innocuous piece of art as pornographic. |
Wow. Have they banned slavery in Alabama, yet?
I recommend trying Cycles Gladiator Cabernet. It's still legal in the other 49 states. So far.
Brilliant!
| I've declared its benefits, all my life, but now researchers agree. Guinness makes one healthier. Click here to read more. Thanks to Mike Sovinsky for sending me this important story. |
